tl/dr I'm glad I went along, but on the whole it was something of a disappointment. Having a cold for much of the weekend is going to be a big part of how I feel about the event though.

Friday night was the quiz that seems likely to continue as an annual thing as long as someone can be found to organise it. I ended up on a team that had a poor early round and gave up, aiming for funny for most of the rest of the rounds. The first round not taken seriously I'd have managed 8 of the 10 answers which was a moderate disappointment but I was entertained by the others trying to be amusing.

My Saturday ended up being about what I remember as far as getting to play games is concerned. Mostly longer games with a fair amount of waiting for other specific people to finish so I could play with them or the "what do you want to play" discussion that always takes time. Three of the games I played are my top three games so that was good, although one of them was ended earlier than it should have been by a player throwing the game because he wasn't enjoying himself. If he was a SAGA member I'd probably have put him on my (short) list of people to never play with again.

Before going to bed that night I decided I wouldn't set an alarm for Sunday morning, as I'd started to experience cold symptoms. I ended up waking up every couple of hours or so through the morning, not cold or with a sore throat or anything else to explain it. By the time I actually got up and sorted things it was about noon, I didn't actually leave until about quarter to one. Games were ending when I arrived and one game I'd probably have been otherwise quite keen to join seemed too much for me so I helped explain Eclipse and then got asked to play Dune. I probably would have been better off not agreeing to play that considering the head cold. I did still have fun though, at least until the final played round (half the group needed to leave early evening), where I overcommitted forces and was basically eliminated as a relevant force. Timing of that was such that I managed to spend most of the prize giving time in that room, and was awarded a voucher for something (I was apparently nominated for something by someone at some point). The other thing I played on Sunday was a partial game of (co-op) Eldritch Horror, where we'd managed to deal with two of the three things that would grant a victory by the end of the booking. With another hour or so I think we'd have won.

Monday started a bit later due to the less regimented session times, and many of the attendees going to breakfast together. I still showed up more than 30 minutes after the doors opened and spent a fair while doing nothing or helping shift things to help with the Grand Start. I played a couple of good games, and another I'd have enjoyed with more involved (Tiny Epic Galaxies with two doesn't seem worth it). The last game ended up being a somewhat mixed up DC Comics DBG with a player that had played before but didn't seem like he had a clue. Having all the non-Grand Start gaming in one area isn't a great ides, the RPG that happened mid afternoon was loud and distracting.

As a follow on, tonight at SAGA was very empty compared to recent weeks, no doubt because of the general tiredness/exhaustion of members. Probably also because another Club had claimed two of the rooms we use which may have led to at least one RPG group heading away. Whether counting completed games or not I nearly played more tonight that I did over the entire event weekend, although that statistic is biased heavily due to playing Coup and Red 7 multiple times tonight.
